Poem of the Week (8 of 52): Citizen

This one is one I've been working on for a while. I cant think where to go from here but maybe in the future there will be a part 2. Its called citizen.

Citizen

Its time for us to start a revolution,
To rise together.
FUCK THE SYSTEM!
No chance for redemption
Or time to repent.

This is the way life is to a civilian,
A lower class citizen.
High marks and no tolerance,
Except the spec-tators
Who end up being the villain,
The culprit, the one who sets
The plans in motion,
Gathers the confidence of others
Who much rather not
Take part in the actions,
But give in to the situation.

Now getting caught in the act,
The leaders of the government spat
Out the words giving us no innocence;
Conviction that comes with an eviction.
These are straight up facts; no fiction.
This is the way life is to a civilian,
A lower class citizen.

Over time the crimes seem so petty,
But its not time to bust out the confetti.
Its still a time where the crime sit on the shoulder.
Spent days, months, so much time trying to repent
Only to remember times of the past.
Now people see a new me, the same me, a changed me.
I think I'm crazy, or time just is moving too slow.
This is the way life is to a civilian,
A lower class citizen.

Poem of the Week (7 of 52): Personality Profile 2

So this week I bring one based off a good friend of mine. We get along well and its always some sort of adventure. I have one or two more poems to use as back up plans now but almost two months in and I am still going strong. One of my backups isn't entirely a backup as to a poem that might not be finished but I have spent 2 months writing it and it keeps taking some twists I haven't expected. We'll see when I release that. I've also started to get back into reading, and writing stories. We'll see where that goes as well. Work is taking over my life but I enjoy and welcome it. So here is the poem of the week.

The passionate nerd
Everyone loves.
Has a sense of style,
At parties gets pretty wild,
But at the end of the day
His hero is from Galifrey.

His music tastes are well versed,
From Zeppelin, Rush, to even songs that curse.
The movie choices seem plain
Until The Dark Crystal is named.
Next comes the speech,
About the gelflings, mystics, and skanksies,
As well as the chinese theories they preach.

Though he sometimes busts out his nerdy glasses,
That thick beard of his will sway the masses,
To his side, views, and opinions,
Taking only the manliness into consideration.

With these facts proven to be true,
His dream of starting a cult will pursue.
The day will come when HABIT will exist,
And all the HATERS will be pissed.

He is a kind hearted man,
Whose always willing to lend a hand,
To his friends and coworkers in need,
As well as follow their lead.
Better friends, there are few,
and I feel bad to those who never knew.

Poem of the Week (6 of 52): Personality Profile 1

So I decided on a new topic for this weeks poem (Yes I realize I'm a day late but finals week and very bad internet until now). I thought about my friends and how it would be nice to share either a story of theirs that may be in side jokes, their personality (either how I or they perceive it), or even a story of their life. In some way or another it has to represent them. I guess technically "Since Creation" is one about my sister. But this one was the first of that idea and there is so much to write it was hard to stop. Its not perfect but I also started a second one that might be next weeks or one for weeks to come.

Anyways I like to keep this ones title hidden. I feel it describes a lot of people and to be honest I dont really have a title for this one. It describes a friend of mine to a point. I just made up a story that went with some things a few people struggle with and its a common theme. Hope people enjoy it.

Sitting alone in silence,
Hair passing through the wind,
There is a marvelous girl,
Who dreams of being thin.

She never drinks, nor does she ever smoke.
But she has her own confessions,
Flaws in which she deals.
Not cocaine or herion,
Something more surreal.

It has built up inside of her,
A manifestation from the past,
The lifetime of addiction,
That she cannot shake from her path.
Oh how she tries to make it go away,
In the sleepless nights she begins to pray.

She attempts to seek change.
Struggling through and through.
She holds an optimistic smile
That contain emotions,
Which may not be true.

As the smile is beginning to fade
She takes another everlasting pill.
She's forcing it down,
Even though her stomach claims she's ill.
While concealing the tears
She swallows it whole.
Hard to see the effects they have on her,
An hour is almost here.
Though as time goes by,
A smile arrives,
And with it all the cheers!

When free of the masks,
She shows her true colors.
The truth is uncovered,
All the beauty that you never see,
The looks, the brains, the generosity,
Comes flooding out,
How I wish that she could see,
How she first attracted me,
But theres too much inner privacy.

Privately provoking,
Finding only loneliness and loathing,
Wanting to move on,
Carpe Diem she yawns,
As she lays down to sleep.
She prays while counting sheep.

Her prayers were answered long ago.
She never noticed, she only saw a foe.
But in her dreams she sees
What mirror truely shows,
Not what she thinks,
But what she really knows;
The beauty hidden from her glows,
Hidden in daylight but by night fall it shows.

Poem of the Week (5 of 52): Apology

This one is themed as an apology poem. To who? No one in particular. It seemed like a cool topic to write about. Its a great form of an apology. I guess it could be aimed at a few different people that I thought of for inspiration but mostly just my views.

Apology

Let me take the time to say
I apologize, for all the lies,
The torments, and the treasons.
I never meant to break those promises,
But thats how it is.
There is nothing more I can do,
I apologize and show respect to you,
But I don't expect the same respect in return.
I hope that you just can see I have learned,
A lesson.
Much like learning the piano you make mistakes,
But that can change from day to day.
Some repeat themselves and all you do is try to correct them,
No need for an apology to the piano, but to you,
I mean this from the heart and its true.
I repeat some mistakes,
and in our breaks,
I sit and wait,
To reconcile with you,
To fix up my flaws and swear I will never hurt you.
I intend to pretend I never did in the first place,
But this is only so I don't have to face,
Myself.
In the mirror, I stand looking at a face,
I just can't place, where I've seen it before.
How did I turn into this monster
Hiding in the shadows of your closet door,
Or under the bed reaching for your foot on the floor,
In an attempt to pull you down and under with me?
But now I've stopped hiding and have come into the light.
I only want to stand here with no intensions to fight,
But to try to express my guilt and make up with you.
I'm sorry for all the torture I've put you through.
For that I apologize.

PS- Soon I'll be writing a review on the newest season opener of Doctor Who and maybe a few other reviews and regular blogs and do more than just these poems.

Poem of the Week (4 of 52): One Night Stand

So last week I was consumed with work and while I wrote a poem I either didnt have it with me or no internet to post it. So I'll make up with a second entry by Thursday. This one I'll leave you to think of what its about. Though the title might be misleading along with the poem itself. It's a bit rough and have spent days trying to come up with the last two lines as well as edit it. So here it is. One Night Stand:

When my lips receive your touch,
I am drawn in.
The touch alone fills me with warmth,
As well as sins.
Oh how I never want you to leave,
But it is inevitable.

Some say we shouldn't be together,
Others accept the fact and never care.
Some would just try to tare us apart.
The rest would never talk to us again.
But how I wish you could stay forever.

As my time with you passes, I love you even more.
You confuse me and make me act senseless,
I would never want to change that for the world.
I sometimes feel the need to hide my emotions,
Desires for you, but will always return to you.

As our time comes to an end
I start to drift away.
You send me spiraling downwards
And I'm unable to stop.
I never realized you could hate me so much,
But in the end I am okay.

When I awake the next morning
You are gone.
My head aches and I wish to be with you still;
I want to return to that night we spent together,
Just you and I.
As memories fade I know that you will return,
Well, maybe someday.

To this very day,
I dream of our next rendezvous;
The next time I will be able to touch you.
I expect nothing less than being crushed;
Anything else is unacceptable,
Cause in truth,
That is what you were put here to do.
Cheers!

Poem of the Week (3 of 52): Happy Birthday Shannon

Today is my sister Shannon's Birthday. I thought I'd write a special one for her today. So I call it Since Creation.

Since Creation

A year older,
Life gets shorter,
You wish you were younger
Always wanted to be a mother.

First birth in this new generation,
How times have changed since your own creation.
Neon colored shirts were all the rage,
Now these kids throw 80's parties and you shout
"ACT YOUR AGE."

But as time flies it comes full circle,
Remember heari.ng the synths as a child?
They back, over used yet so beautiful,
So happy, retro, unbelievable.
But you got older and with it your styles have changed
Now its about the Keys and the Wests
With little respect to those who
Try to bring you back to that infant age.

If only I was there today,
I'd try to make your day.
I'd cook, clean, while saying "Rest today. Cause,
You're my sister and I love you,
And I never mean to fight and argue,
Or snap at you. Today that's not necessary.
Today is your birthday.

Happy Birthday Shannon. I love you.
Love,
Sean

Poem of the Week (2 of 52): Of Demons and Bears

So I decided to put out Of Demons and Bears, a poem I wrote about 3 weeks ago. This was very cool and out of boredom. I think it has a pretty good overall universal message plus a cool inside joke. Its about playing NHL10 or hockey in general. Thats why I wrote it and thats what the last stanza is about. I am not sure if I like the last stanza or not. It doesnt seem to fit but it kinda does. So here it is:

Of Demons and Bears

Feeling the weight of the world on my chest
Never thought I'd see the skies come crashing down.
No longer have the warmth that once filled my heart
The last of the smoke rises through my head
Is this a joke or the life I have chosen?

All my friends and my enemies are all too near
I just need space and a chance to break away
Ever think when all alone there is still an enemy to fear
Come rushing down alone confronting him one on one

Never thought I'd get that one shot to make things right
Repent for my past mistakes and have no fear
My body is shaking, tingling feel in the hands
My vision is fading and all I see is black

Never expected to hear the sound of the bell
Or see the look in everyone's eyes
Didn't know it was possible to remove the weight from my chest
Or get the fire, the passion back in my life

This is the life I have chosen
The addiction of its touch, its sights, sounds, taste
All running through my veins
This is how I wish to spend the last of my days

Week 10: Dreamweaver = Dream Program

So last week in Internet Tech I learned how to use Dreamweaver or at least start to learn it. The program makes coding so much simpler. You can litterally drag and drop or manually enter code. I'd recommend this program for anyone just starting out to make sites and to help self teach coding. It is easy to use and takes less time for to make a page than regular coding. It will be cool if I learn more and all the features. But the basics are all I need now and it is still amazing how much faster you can edit with this. I'm looking forward to Thursday to learn more.

Poem of the Week: Week 1 of 52

Hey all. So no class work has been due in a while but I thought I'd give an update on life and my new inspiration. The last 2 weeks of my life have been pretty stressful. Though through some tough times I've found some relief. I'm feeling better about everything that has happened and continuing struggles. I have found peace in writing. It could be continuing old stories or new ones, poems/lyrics, or papers for class. Writing helps relax me and vent. So as a late New Years resolution I have decided to post a poem each week up here for an entire year. So 52 poems of the next 52 weeks. Sounds like fun. I for the most part will post new ones, yet if for some reason I don't have time I'll go into the vault and pull out some old ones I wrote in the past.

I have a few that I've written in the past couple weeks reading so lets start off with a good one to end the night that I call Dreams. I wrote it earlier this week when I was very tired and about to pass out and couldn't make proper sentences to my friends and just confused them. I added to it the next few days (first stanza is the original part I wrote that night) and finished a few nights later right before I went to sleep and I feel it ends perfectly.

Dreams

Words are escaping me.
Vocabulary is failing me.
The time has come to ask
The mind if it's forsaken me.
But its just that time of night
Where no rhymes will awaken me.
I need to sleep, to rejuvenate,
To re-engergize the mind,
The place where dreams are made
And can come true, but are only for me to see.

Its just me, my mind's vision of peace,
And love, freedom, a relief from the
Stress that builds from time to time.
Its just time to relax a little
And fall deep into this fantasy,
A few hours lease into the imaginary
Land of the lost. Much like the works of Faust
It can be scary, but do not become wary or too
Cautious, there will always be adversaries,
And protagonists sent in for protection,
Not to mention that this is all a dream.
Three clicks and you'll be home, away from Oz,
Back to the real life, full of life, and rest.
Its the time to start a new day,
But now its time for me to drift away with no sight,
So with that I say Goodnight.

Week 6: Of Projects and Midterms

Its 4am on the morning I have Internet Technologies. I have just finished the editing of the film we did for the class. Its not quite done. Mike has to add some sound in the morning. This has been one of few really horrible projects I've worked on. The only two that I can think of that have been worse is trying to get a DVD to work on Final Cut and when I had to edit soccer with a very shaky camera.

First off the filming went great. We set days and times and everyone showed up and did what was needed. My group has been one of the best groups I've worked with in a long time that actually stayed on schedule and did what they needed to do. The problems came when trying to log and capture the footage. Justin was suppose to edit the project originally. We agreed that I would film and give it my take and he'd edit it for his vision. He ended up not being able to get a computer to read the tape without an error happening. It was at this point when I stepped in to help out and try some other ways. I tried hooking up my camera but it was dead so I took one out from Studio Ops. Then the computers weren't reading the cameras.

This is when I took the tape and tried to deal with it the following day (Tuesday). I had no luck and then went to try it on my friends personal computer. It had a tape error. I tried to upload it with a different camera and it did not work. I went to my last resort which was trying to use iMovie. With this attempt I found both the problem and the solution, and a very long night.

Through iMovie I saw the tape was reading at almost an hour into the tape when it was at the beginning. This timecode error shows why Final Cut wouldn't accept it but iMovie is a horrible program so it accepts this without question. It took forever to process and was much harder to edit than it would have been on Final Cut. I can't really edit the sound on this so it doesn't sound well and Mike will make that a bit better.

Some parts I gave up on since I have no way to control sound. Because of not editing it the way it should be I couldn't make it the best it could be but I think that my team would agree that I did justice for what we filmed. I can't wait for Mike to add some sound and music and for Justin to see it to make any last second changes. With this I go to sleep.

Night all

Wiki Page proposal

Ok so it took me a while to think of something to do and with no printer this is an easy place to store my proposal and print it.

My idea is too do my wiki page on the shortly lived television show Titus. From what I see on the wiki page there is a few things I know I can add. I can add how the show would have ended if they had a chance to do a final episode. I can also add about how in each season the actress playing his mother is different and the reasons why. I could also do an in depth analysis of some episodes if that is the case. Once I do a little research there is probably a little bit more that I can add.

Week 5: The Internet-Where Boredom Goes to Die Along With A Dose of Increasing Paranoia

The internet is a scary place. You can post videos, interact in social networks, play games, find the news, and potentially attack the world. Yes sir. Its happened in the past with events like "Code Red" and its been predicted that if someone wanted to and was determined to that they could cause very serious damage to the US and take down a vital part of the way we live in the US. Be cautious every time your internet slows. Check the connection and try to fix it. If it is unfix able fear the worse and be relieved when the worse doesn't come true and if such events were to happen then you are already prepared.

Why must we rely so heavily on the internet? The non computer generations that need to adapt and learn how to use computers remember times where it was rare to find music and most had to be special ordered. There were no chain stores like there are today. To have a wide variety meant death to your business, and yet some still survive. Others feel the chains will fail now that digital downloads are availible, which leads me to another question: Why MP3s? They are only 8-bit and not a linear line. Call me old fashion but records had the constant wave of sound being played and it was pure and crisp. MP3s are bits on info that can be downloaded in packets that may leave gaps or static sound.

I'm an analog guy in a digital world. But why not restore the analog culture and rely less on the internet and computers in general? It would help supply more jobs and make us more self sufficient. We should not fear viruses or bigger attacks every time we log on. The internet should be used only to obtain news feeds, email, and maybe some sort of entertainment.

Its too easy to lie and become someone else online. False names, screennames, cyber bullying, role playing, and more are just things that show that you can creative or a spy. It reminds me of A Scanner Darkly with the masks that police must wear so no one ever knows who police are, yet its the mans boss that sets him up and makes him OD on drugs and cause his mind to split. The internet is a new world. New in the sense that its only been around since the 60's and only publicly availible for less than 20 years. This nation isnt even 300 years old yet we are considered still a young country to put just a small perspective on how new the world of the internet is. In this short span it is now becoming airborne through wifi and cell phones. We have come a long way and yet still much more progress will be mad. There is no past, just the present. It even has several of its own launguages such as HTML, Java, and C++ (not to mention the cyber english such as LOL that has been created). I welcome this world and hope to enjoy it for many more years.

Dogs

December never really got my feelin'
Never really, never really, never real
It just came and said "Hi"
And even though I don't feel I am livin'
When I see your tears drop
I am there like a dog

Oh young boy those times are a changin'
Don't be staring at the clock
Realize life is worth a livin'
Because when I see your tears drop
I am there like a dog

My baby girl when lifes got ya thinkin'
Remember to take it all in
Take it all, take it all, take it
Don't think life isn't worth livin'
But if those tears do drop
I am there like a dog

Happy Valentines Day

Week 4: Jeopardy, Snow, and Dreams

Last class we played Jeopardy which was pretty cool and made was a fun way to remember things we've talked about in class as well as learn some new things. I liked that idea a lot. I couldn't help but feel that the public school system may have failed us as students though. I was the only person to know the answer of who was president during the time that the internet was made public. I knew it instantly but I thought I may have miss heard the question and while my teammate buzzed in with a wrong answer I felt all hope was loss. In high school and even before that I learned about historical figures and not much about recent history. Even in US history we only got up to the 60's. As a kid I only knew of Clinton til his presidency was over and had heard of Bush senior but never really learned about when he was president until high school and was a bit shocked of how recent he was president.

Maybe the public schools should do a better job. Maybe its all the snow days that we miss so much learning like today. Today school was closed and at 7:25pm we have at most 2inches. I feel it was a good call for the areas far worse off than here and the amount of kids that have to travel but at the same time it seems like a waste. Im used to getting a foot or more of school and having school stay open. At most I had one or two snow days a year IF that. Today I woke up thinking it would be a winter wonderland and yet my dreams failed me. There was nothing to show but a normal day. Shortly after my roommate came back from class and told me that the rest of the day has been canceled. Canceled for snow that never came? Tomorrow there will be snow and maybe even another snow day. Am I hoping for another one? Not really but that is the reality of this world.

Lets make the rest of this night a nice and relaxing night. Inglorious Bastards, Dresden, and sleep. Life is good.

Week 3 - Testing the Connections

So this week I went into my editing class with my hard drive and my project captured to it, but not the original tape. As I opened my project I found out that the sound did not work. I went and changed a few settings and tried different things but nothing seemed to work. I decided that I would just tell my teacher if I saw him on my way out that I didnt care if I was late cause I'd be sitting around for 3 hours doing literally nothing at all when I could just waste an hour tops on getting my tape and being able to edit.

At this point I am about to get up when I think, "I could just edit this without sound then on my own time go and edit it with sound. Sounds good." This thought quickly faded and I tried once more to get it to work and then seek help. Before I try messing with settings I hit the button that has been least helpful and has showed that the capture had failed me; the play button. This time to my surprise it played audio. I was relieved and did not care why it decided to work then just happy that it was working.

Next I pumped up the audio so it could be heard at a reasonable level without cranking the volume. About halfway through the project the end half of my audio was horrible. So bad that I thought I might have to go back to Vermont and reshoot it (or just scrap what I had and redo the project). After nesting a few audio tracks I realized that my headphone jack came unplugged slightly. Always check connections folks.

To end my project needs about another hour to be tweaked to my liking and John's Charlie Murphy shakes make me laugh and makes it hard to edit. John I miss you bro. I'll take whatever bet you want to make with me on the superbowl. Lets do it up!

Week 1

So far I've signed up for a forum which will be very helpful for the class. The forum is a place that I can go and get help from not only my class, but the class before mine. Unlike many forums we are required to check it weekly and post weekly which means there is a better chance of getting my questions viewed immediately. I have also created a blog. I've wrote a few blog entries in the past but not many. This will either make me like blogs or hate blogs. I may continue posting blogs once the class is over or even during the class on my own and not just about lessons. I think this could be very rewarding and a great way to get practice in writing. As the weeks go on we shall see. So far this seems like its a great experiment in writing and blogging.
