Poem of the Week (8 of 52): Citizen

This one is one I've been working on for a while. I cant think where to go from here but maybe in the future there will be a part 2. Its called citizen.

Citizen

Its time for us to start a revolution,
To rise together.
FUCK THE SYSTEM!
No chance for redemption
Or time to repent.

This is the way life is to a civilian,
A lower class citizen.
High marks and no tolerance,
Except the spec-tators
Who end up being the villain,
The culprit, the one who sets
The plans in motion,
Gathers the confidence of others
Who much rather not
Take part in the actions,
But give in to the situation.

Now getting caught in the act,
The leaders of the government spat
Out the words giving us no innocence;
Conviction that comes with an eviction.
These are straight up facts; no fiction.
This is the way life is to a civilian,
A lower class citizen.

Over time the crimes seem so petty,
But its not time to bust out the confetti.
Its still a time where the crime sit on the shoulder.
Spent days, months, so much time trying to repent
Only to remember times of the past.
Now people see a new me, the same me, a changed me.
I think I'm crazy, or time just is moving too slow.
This is the way life is to a civilian,
A lower class citizen.

Poem of the Week (7 of 52): Personality Profile 2

So this week I bring one based off a good friend of mine. We get along well and its always some sort of adventure. I have one or two more poems to use as back up plans now but almost two months in and I am still going strong. One of my backups isn't entirely a backup as to a poem that might not be finished but I have spent 2 months writing it and it keeps taking some twists I haven't expected. We'll see when I release that. I've also started to get back into reading, and writing stories. We'll see where that goes as well. Work is taking over my life but I enjoy and welcome it. So here is the poem of the week.

The passionate nerd
Everyone loves.
Has a sense of style,
At parties gets pretty wild,
But at the end of the day
His hero is from Galifrey.

His music tastes are well versed,
From Zeppelin, Rush, to even songs that curse.
The movie choices seem plain
Until The Dark Crystal is named.
Next comes the speech,
About the gelflings, mystics, and skanksies,
As well as the chinese theories they preach.

Though he sometimes busts out his nerdy glasses,
That thick beard of his will sway the masses,
To his side, views, and opinions,
Taking only the manliness into consideration.

With these facts proven to be true,
His dream of starting a cult will pursue.
The day will come when HABIT will exist,
And all the HATERS will be pissed.

He is a kind hearted man,
Whose always willing to lend a hand,
To his friends and coworkers in need,
As well as follow their lead.
Better friends, there are few,
and I feel bad to those who never knew.

Poem of the Week (6 of 52): Personality Profile 1

So I decided on a new topic for this weeks poem (Yes I realize I'm a day late but finals week and very bad internet until now). I thought about my friends and how it would be nice to share either a story of theirs that may be in side jokes, their personality (either how I or they perceive it), or even a story of their life. In some way or another it has to represent them. I guess technically "Since Creation" is one about my sister. But this one was the first of that idea and there is so much to write it was hard to stop. Its not perfect but I also started a second one that might be next weeks or one for weeks to come.

Anyways I like to keep this ones title hidden. I feel it describes a lot of people and to be honest I dont really have a title for this one. It describes a friend of mine to a point. I just made up a story that went with some things a few people struggle with and its a common theme. Hope people enjoy it.

Sitting alone in silence,
Hair passing through the wind,
There is a marvelous girl,
Who dreams of being thin.

She never drinks, nor does she ever smoke.
But she has her own confessions,
Flaws in which she deals.
Not cocaine or herion,
Something more surreal.

It has built up inside of her,
A manifestation from the past,
The lifetime of addiction,
That she cannot shake from her path.
Oh how she tries to make it go away,
In the sleepless nights she begins to pray.

She attempts to seek change.
Struggling through and through.
She holds an optimistic smile
That contain emotions,
Which may not be true.

As the smile is beginning to fade
She takes another everlasting pill.
She's forcing it down,
Even though her stomach claims she's ill.
While concealing the tears
She swallows it whole.
Hard to see the effects they have on her,
An hour is almost here.
Though as time goes by,
A smile arrives,
And with it all the cheers!

When free of the masks,
She shows her true colors.
The truth is uncovered,
All the beauty that you never see,
The looks, the brains, the generosity,
Comes flooding out,
How I wish that she could see,
How she first attracted me,
But theres too much inner privacy.

Privately provoking,
Finding only loneliness and loathing,
Wanting to move on,
Carpe Diem she yawns,
As she lays down to sleep.
She prays while counting sheep.

Her prayers were answered long ago.
She never noticed, she only saw a foe.
But in her dreams she sees
What mirror truely shows,
Not what she thinks,
But what she really knows;
The beauty hidden from her glows,
Hidden in daylight but by night fall it shows.

Poem of the Week (5 of 52): Apology

This one is themed as an apology poem. To who? No one in particular. It seemed like a cool topic to write about. Its a great form of an apology. I guess it could be aimed at a few different people that I thought of for inspiration but mostly just my views.

Apology

Let me take the time to say
I apologize, for all the lies,
The torments, and the treasons.
I never meant to break those promises,
But thats how it is.
There is nothing more I can do,
I apologize and show respect to you,
But I don't expect the same respect in return.
I hope that you just can see I have learned,
A lesson.
Much like learning the piano you make mistakes,
But that can change from day to day.
Some repeat themselves and all you do is try to correct them,
No need for an apology to the piano, but to you,
I mean this from the heart and its true.
I repeat some mistakes,
and in our breaks,
I sit and wait,
To reconcile with you,
To fix up my flaws and swear I will never hurt you.
I intend to pretend I never did in the first place,
But this is only so I don't have to face,
Myself.
In the mirror, I stand looking at a face,
I just can't place, where I've seen it before.
How did I turn into this monster
Hiding in the shadows of your closet door,
Or under the bed reaching for your foot on the floor,
In an attempt to pull you down and under with me?
But now I've stopped hiding and have come into the light.
I only want to stand here with no intensions to fight,
But to try to express my guilt and make up with you.
I'm sorry for all the torture I've put you through.
For that I apologize.

PS- Soon I'll be writing a review on the newest season opener of Doctor Who and maybe a few other reviews and regular blogs and do more than just these poems.

Poem of the Week (4 of 52): One Night Stand

So last week I was consumed with work and while I wrote a poem I either didnt have it with me or no internet to post it. So I'll make up with a second entry by Thursday. This one I'll leave you to think of what its about. Though the title might be misleading along with the poem itself. It's a bit rough and have spent days trying to come up with the last two lines as well as edit it. So here it is. One Night Stand:

When my lips receive your touch,
I am drawn in.
The touch alone fills me with warmth,
As well as sins.
Oh how I never want you to leave,
But it is inevitable.

Some say we shouldn't be together,
Others accept the fact and never care.
Some would just try to tare us apart.
The rest would never talk to us again.
But how I wish you could stay forever.

As my time with you passes, I love you even more.
You confuse me and make me act senseless,
I would never want to change that for the world.
I sometimes feel the need to hide my emotions,
Desires for you, but will always return to you.

As our time comes to an end
I start to drift away.
You send me spiraling downwards
And I'm unable to stop.
I never realized you could hate me so much,
But in the end I am okay.

When I awake the next morning
You are gone.
My head aches and I wish to be with you still;
I want to return to that night we spent together,
Just you and I.
As memories fade I know that you will return,
Well, maybe someday.

To this very day,
I dream of our next rendezvous;
The next time I will be able to touch you.
I expect nothing less than being crushed;
Anything else is unacceptable,
Cause in truth,
That is what you were put here to do.
Cheers!

Poem of the Week (3 of 52): Happy Birthday Shannon

Today is my sister Shannon's Birthday. I thought I'd write a special one for her today. So I call it Since Creation.

Since Creation

A year older,
Life gets shorter,
You wish you were younger
Always wanted to be a mother.

First birth in this new generation,
How times have changed since your own creation.
Neon colored shirts were all the rage,
Now these kids throw 80's parties and you shout
"ACT YOUR AGE."

But as time flies it comes full circle,
Remember heari.ng the synths as a child?
They back, over used yet so beautiful,
So happy, retro, unbelievable.
But you got older and with it your styles have changed
Now its about the Keys and the Wests
With little respect to those who
Try to bring you back to that infant age.

If only I was there today,
I'd try to make your day.
I'd cook, clean, while saying "Rest today. Cause,
You're my sister and I love you,
And I never mean to fight and argue,
Or snap at you. Today that's not necessary.
Today is your birthday.

Happy Birthday Shannon. I love you.
Love,
Sean

Poem of the Week (2 of 52): Of Demons and Bears

So I decided to put out Of Demons and Bears, a poem I wrote about 3 weeks ago. This was very cool and out of boredom. I think it has a pretty good overall universal message plus a cool inside joke. Its about playing NHL10 or hockey in general. Thats why I wrote it and thats what the last stanza is about. I am not sure if I like the last stanza or not. It doesnt seem to fit but it kinda does. So here it is:

Of Demons and Bears

Feeling the weight of the world on my chest
Never thought I'd see the skies come crashing down.
No longer have the warmth that once filled my heart
The last of the smoke rises through my head
Is this a joke or the life I have chosen?

All my friends and my enemies are all too near
I just need space and a chance to break away
Ever think when all alone there is still an enemy to fear
Come rushing down alone confronting him one on one

Never thought I'd get that one shot to make things right
Repent for my past mistakes and have no fear
My body is shaking, tingling feel in the hands
My vision is fading and all I see is black

Never expected to hear the sound of the bell
Or see the look in everyone's eyes
Didn't know it was possible to remove the weight from my chest
Or get the fire, the passion back in my life

This is the life I have chosen
The addiction of its touch, its sights, sounds, taste
All running through my veins
This is how I wish to spend the last of my days
